You Can't Learn These Moves In The Classroom
My brother recently called me to ask if I had taken dance lessons as a child. The answer was no. (Although if you had seen the moves I busted out in Angie’s living room during the JT concert you would have said WHAT? No formal training? Its just not fair for one person to have so much natural talent!) Anyways, apparently big bro and sister in law were having a discussion about my God child’s future in the dance world. Erin was thinking it was a right of passage, Mike was not as convinced since his one sister population sample proved otherwise. So what gives? Am I the only one who didn’t don the pink tutu as a toddler? I’ve always suspected that it was somehow related to the fact that during my prime dance lesson years we were still moving around a bit. Who knows what kind of dance accommodations Germany offered. (Polka anyone?) Plus I was always more interested in little league than little pirouettes. I never felt slighted in anyway (don’t worry Mom) but it just got me thinking... Did I miss out? Input please.

Well, Mike exaggerates--I wasn't Little Miss Sunshine but I did take ballet, tap and jazz when I was little. I only remember two recitals and they were fun. You didn't miss out though. I was much happier playing on my soccer team--a bunch of five year olds that moved around the ball in herds up and down the field!
Ten years of tap and jazz here - maybe one year of ballet in the beginning. I guess I wanted to be a Fosse chorus girl instead of a ballerina (jazz hands). I don't think you missed out on anything. But I also don't think it hurts. I mean... I obviously didn't turn out to a be a pageant mom or anything. And I can still do the splits! - Lisa
Gymnastics for sure!!! The other ones are if the PARENTS are interested:) I'm always in favor of tomboys.
I had none of it growing up...no tap/jazz/gymnastics/ballet and I think that I turned out just fine if I don't say so myself... but I am one of your best friends so maybe birds of a feather flock together:) Plus as a side note how many of your friends do you know that still practice tap/jazz/ballet on a regular basis versus those that took piano that still tickle the ivories from time to time? I don't know about you but I know more of the later.
I took ballett and gymnastic for years, but also did soccer and softball. I can't resist a little peanut in a tutu...if Libby doesn't object, I'd definately like to see how she likes dance!
You seem to have turned out just fine! However, I was excited at the thought that Erin would probably know how to french braid Ella's hair! You do remember what a trial that was for me!
I didn't have any dance classes when I was young, but I can tell you I would probably look much better in the living room during 'So you think you can dance' if I would have.
