When earlier this season Craig Biggio announced this would be his final season in major league baseball, the Half Street fiance was smart enough to rush online to buy tickets to his final home game. The game this afternoon did not disappoint. Although the season was fairly painful, at least the 'stros mustered one last win to pay tribute to Bigg. 43,823 Houstonians (at least for the day) were on hand to see Biggio hit one last double and send this class act out in style. The fiance and I found ourselves a little misty eyed at times and who could blame us? In an age where Sports Center doubles as a crime blotter, how can you not appreciate the efforts of a guy like Biggio. 20 years in the league is an accomplishment in and of itself but 20 years with the same club? We're not likely to see that happen again soon. Not to mention he always seemed to be a stand-up guy, who played the game the way it was supposed to be played. Astros fans repaid his loyalty with countless standing ovations and unending adoration. To me, his dedication to Houston, and the way in which he has conducted himself in the public eye, is much more impressive than any of the records he holds.BIG-GI-O! BIG-GI-O! BIG-GI-O! BIG-GI-O!
