When walking 60 miles you can not overestimate the importance of good equipment. That small seam on the inside of your sock, that you can ignore for 3 miles? Guess what, it turns into a ginormous fluid filled blister after about mile 49. That's why I don't mind paying up slightly for a product that could mean the difference between finishing the walk and having to hop on the 'sag wagon.' Lately my issue has been shorts. Last years 3-Day was mild enough in October to facilitate Capri style warm-ups. This was beneficial for many reasons, not least among them that I didn't have to wear shorts, which I hate. On training walks lately I've been experimenting with several different styles, all with no luck. They either ride up, or seem chaffing prone. I think I found a product today though that solves the problem. I've yet to test them out, but I can tell they are going to be an improvement. Don't ask how I know, I just know.
While I was at it, I replaced my old shoes. I'm kind of sad to see the old ones go, as they got me through the 60 miles last year, but it was time. They had around 120 miles on them, which isn't a ton but they were pretty worn. They were after all, pretty hard miles. Plus I was pretty sure I could find a better fit for me. I have very flat feet. Very. (me at the running store: "I have problems with my arches" very nice running guy: "how can you have problems, you don't have any!" funny, big guy, real funny) He thinks these ones will do me better, and I tend to agree. Again, I don't know how I know, so don't bother asking. So now I have 3 weeks to break them in. Off to walk....

You're on your way! I do remember from last year's pics how cute everyone was dressed. I guess this year has the potential to be sweltering. I'm sure you'll be adorable in whatever you choose.
Erin (not Mike like it says :)
Well, I see that the number on the right finally starting to go up. Good
dad
I have a vivid memory... Pose and I at the mall, shopping. P in a rage, plopping down in the middle of the aisle, flipping her shoe over her shoulder, ripping off the sock and howling that she COULD NOT STAND the seam on the sock rubbing against her toe nail one more second!!! Having the problem now, myself, of having to situate the sock seam just so before I go to work out, I feel your pain. For goodness sakes, get it right before the walk! Not only will I be there to cheer you on, but I will be there with you step by step, mentally, trying to keep the socks staight and shorts down!
