An Anniversary Gift
Before I met McD, I never knew what a plumeria was. Most people think of her as 100% Texan, but I'm pretty sure she's about 25% Hawaiian as well. When her family lived in Hawaii, they had a plumeria tree in their yard and they have been her favorite since then. When we went to Hawaii together I realized how wonderful they were, and soon they were one of my favorites too. We even bought this terrible looking tree branch in the airport, that promised to bloom into an honest to goodness plumeria tree when planted back home. We never had much luck. I even tried to help the cause along by buying her a more mature one once. I think she has had some luck with her plumerias in recent years, but I had yet to figure out how to have my own blooming plumeria tree. Last year, I received one as a house warming gift. I have faithfully watered and fed it but I never much believed that it would actually bloom for me. Even when it started to get some mysterious buds at the end of its branches. So how appropriate when I walk out the door today, and at last I have a beautiful plumeria bloom on my tree with several others clearly to follow. I think the Hawaiian spirits where sending McD and CK some good wishes from the islands, on today their first wedding anniversary! Happy Anniversary from Hawaii, and the Half Street!

Gosh. Congratulations on the blooming plumeria. I am jealous. I bet it smells wonderful. I could never get those airport branches to bloom either...
Happy Anniversary K&C!!!! That's great. P, Mike and I really miss the plumeria trees too. We had one in our front yard. I'd pick the fallen blooms up when we went on our walk and then put them in a floating vase. My favorites were the ones that had a hint of pink in the middle along with the yellow and white---ahhhh, Ha-vay-eeee-nay!!!!!!!
lucky you. The tree in our front lawn in Hawaii was incredible. Hopefully your tree will kepp up the blooms.
Thanks Half Street!! Your bloom is beautiful!
Ours are really growing, although no blooms this season. Despite all of the protection last winter, they still froze, so we are in a 'rebuilding year.' I doubt they will ever be big enough to crawl around in, like the tree we had in Hawaii. Of course, I am a little bigger now then I was when I was 7 so probably better to not have the temptation and break a whole tree!
