Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, We've Got Cake In Our Tummy

I’m a little concerned. I originally wanted a blog to save the parts of my brain that were rapidly turning to mush from lack of use. Since 99% of my days are spent in various soul sucking pursuits, I thought forcing myself to write a little bit every night would be good for me. I like to write. I don’t like sitting in traffic, dieting, or well (gasp) planning weddings. “Blasphemy” I can hear being screamed from across cyberspace (mainly by my mom to be sure). But lately I find myself spending all my time/energy on the later category and very little on the intended purpose of the blog. Partying down with my friends and loved ones in celebration of my love for the half street fiancé….fun. Deciding on the least torturous dress to force my bridesmaids to wear…in a word… blows. Same with waiting for unorganized people (read: 90% of the wedding industry) to return phone calls, deciding if money is better spent on flowers or invites (when you know that both are ending up in the same place) and trying to decide if people will dance more to a live band or DJ. But despite the effort to give my creative legs a stretch, I’ve noticed I blog about one of 3 things: My house, my dog, what I was doing when I was too busy to blog. And they aren’t even overly witty updates either.

Now that I’ve admitted to my lack of creativity, I’m going to continue writing about one of the above 3 categories: what I was doing when I was too busy to blog.

One part of wedding planning that hasn’t sucked thus far? CAKE TASTING! The rub here is that cake tasting is the part I was LEAST looking forward to. I don’t know if this is good or bad, but the last 5+ weddings I’ve attended, this Dancing Queen has been far too busy having fun to bother to break for cake. But I know it was important to Mom that we have good cake (Now there is a lady who appreciates a tasty baked-good) so I plunged ahead despite my disinterest. Last night we met the ‘cake lady’ chit-chatted about design, and tasted the goods. In a word: Scrumdealeeumptious (yes I know its not a word: see above: brain=mush). For your viewing pleasure: The brides sample cake (vanilla and mixed berry filling) and the grooms sample cake (German chocolate). And no, we won't be serving ice cream with it at the wedding.

If I bring my own ice cream can I have it with my cake? ;)

Since you have pics of the cake on here, I am thinking you've uploaded pics...which leads me to -> where are the BM dress pics?!

Thanks for the recipe - looks great!

If there is somebody that can tell you about cake, it's your mother. Too bad she is not there to help you sample.

Currently in Japan. Perfect weather and I am told a great place for fall tree color change. Will explore tomorrow.

Wow! Those both look delicious. I especially love German chocolate cake. Can you reveal the design or are you saving that for a surprise?

Have a good day today--Happy happy!

What's up with German Chocolate cake icing? Granted, my first hand experience with Germany was a 3 day trip about 15 years ago, but I do not recall seeing a coconut or pecan tree one. And the icing? Not chocolate, not vanilla, just some kind of uncategorized yolk-based concoction.

Posey, vanilla cake with mixed berry filling is the best. Well done Godmother. Oh, and happy birthday!
